DNS Requests

  1. The Computer Center can only facilitate DNS requests under *.upd.edu.ph, with the exception of the following:
    • All requests under the College of Engineering (*.coe.upd.edu.ph, *.engg.upd.edu.ph) are under the College of Engineering. If you are a project, laboratory, department or unit under the College of Engineering, kindly course your requests to support@coe.upd.edu.ph
    • All requests under the College of Science are managed by the Computational Science Research Center. If you are a project, laboratory, department or unit under the College of Science, kindly course your requests to support.csrc@science.upd.edu.ph. This includes but are not limited to domains:
      • *.science.upd.edu.ph
      • math.upd.edu.ph
      • msi.upd.edu.ph
      • nip.upd.edu.ph
      • nsri.upd.edu.ph
  2. The *.up.edu.ph domain is NOT under the Computer Center. Kindly open a support ticket with UP ITDC at https://ictsupport.up.edu.ph
  3. The Computer Center follows a general nomenclature of [laboratory/unit/project].[department].[college].upd.edu.ph, subject to exceptions approved by the Computer Center Director.
  4. When requesting a DNS entry, kindly email our hostmaster (hostmaster[at]upd.edu.ph) the following:
    • Proposed DNS/URL to be approved.
    • IP address to be pointed (if it is not under Computer Center’s hosting service).
    • DNS type (if not an A record – kindly specify CNAME, TXT, MX with the value).
  5. The Computer Center reserves the right to refuse a proposed DNS name if it is already taken, too ambiguous, too long (or short), or may be confused for another service. The Computer Center will suggest alternative names during these cases.
  6. Once the DNS request is processed, the Computer Center will inform the requesting party along with a screenshot/link from a 3rd-party DNS tester showing a successful query.
  7. Please note that some ISPs / networks may take as long as 48 hours to propagate/update their DNS severs.
